ONCE PAST THE TOWERS, having left Desert Queen Mine, the old miner’s trail swings around and down into Silverado wash. Silverado itself is a set of formations (rock climbs) high on the hillside to your right (the back side of The Towers). This is a scenic, shallow vegetated valley which climbs slowly to where the trail eventually zigzags through a saddle and continues around the other side. Look for a large pointed rock in the distance, which will be visible as soon as you enter Silverado wash. The trail passes left of it.

Fraggle Rock Area
Fraggle Rock, so-named by the rock-climbing community many moons ago, is a cluster of squarish blocks that rises above a small plateau. Here, some forgotten miners dug a few pits and dreamed of riches untold; left their tailings piles; and even built a comfy looking cabin under Cosmic Trigger Block, a part of the Fraggle Rock complex. Climbs on these formidable boulders tend to be difficult, especially “Sensory Deprivation,” “I Have the Touch,” “Cosmic Trigger,” “Tears for Fears,” and “Petrodynamics.” The area around the cabin makes an idyllic picnic spot, with a couple of shady pinyon pines overlooking Silverado Wash and the valley below, as well as vistas to Queen Mountain. Highly recommended for anyone who wishes an escape from a hectic work week.
