THIS REMARKABLE CANYON RUNS NORTHWEST from the Brown Wall at the back of Hidden Valley and eventually takes one to the Lost Horse Wall. (See Lost Horse Area) Approach can be made from Hidden Valley and it can also be reached as easily from Park Boulevard by walking around the north side of Pep Boys Crag (the route I took on this occasion, since the distance is only about 400 yards from the parking turnout—a mere driver and a short iron, or 180 seconds as the legs stride).

A very beautiful area that occupies two narrow canyons between Roadside Rocks and Hidden Valley, it is as its name implies primitive and mysterious; you’d almost expect to see pterodactyls gliding above while dinosaurs prowl among the rocks and trees!

The shy but friendly Cookie Monster of Joshua Tree Park

Thank you for visiting the Land that Time Forgot. Upon leaving, please deposit any flesh-eating raptors that might have snagged your pants cuffs with their teeth in one of the two large blue bins at the Exit turnstile. We like to recycle these. Thank you, and return often! —The Management.
